Gospel Reading Plan: Luke 11-12
Prayer during a Crisis
Read: Daniel 1-2
Daniel is a striking example of a man who refused to compromise, he
would not eat the king’s meat or drink the king’s wine. He stood out as a God fearing man in an
ungodly country. Daniel resolved to
follow God, no matter what the cost. His
dedication to the Lord opened the door for God to use him in a great way. When the king had a disturbing dream he
demanded that the magicians and interpreters of the day not only give him the
interpretation but also tell him the dream.
Nobody could do this impossible task and the king sentenced them all to
death, including Daniel and his three friends.
Daniel appealed for time and immediately went home and explained the
matter to his friends. He urged them to plead for mercy from God concerning the
mysterious dream so that they would not be executed with the wise men of
Babylon. When this crisis hit, Daniel’s
first reaction was to get his friends to pray.
He did not organize a meeting to discuss possible ways to change the king’s
mind. This is a solid example for us to
follow for prayer should be the first option, not a last resort. During the night the mystery was revealed to
Daniel, he gave the interpretation to the king and the slaughter of the wise
men of the land was avoided. Crisis
demands prayer, God alone has the wisdom that is needed for all our
situations. It is better to trust in the
Lord then to rely on your own abilities and answers. Get others to pray, don’t walk in crisis
alone. What seemed at first was a
massive crisis turned out to be God revealing to His children His great plan of
establishing a lasting Kingdom on earth.
Without a praying man to interpret the dream of an evil king, this
prophetic message would have been missed.
PRAYER AND MEDITATION
- What are three things that jumped out about you from today’s Scripture passage?
- How does God want you to apply these things to your personal life?
- Pray for yourself, that you would follow through on what the Lord spoke to you about today.
