BIBLE IN A YEAR: Jeremiah 43-45 and Hebrews 5-6

SCRIPTURE READING
Luke 1:29-33, 35-37 (ESV); But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end… And the angel answered her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her) who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Many of the Messianic prophesies of the past were pouring out of the history books in this very moment! The Messiah, born of a virgin, would come from the line of Judah and the throne of David, who had been promised an everlasting dynasty. The Redeemer was coming to Israel. The anticipation in the heavenlies must have been grand as they waited what would be the greatest event of history! Heaven and earth were about to collide. Mary and Elizabeth’s lives were about to collide. No longer does Elizabeth’s pregnancy take precedence as the most remarkable event in the happenings surrounding Christ’s birth. That miracle was only a foretaste of another glorious pregnancy! The possibility of God was breaking through the impossibility of man.

PRAYER and MEDITATION
1.       Take a substantial amount of time to meditate on the verses in Luke and their necessity to the Christmas story. Ask the Lord to thrill your heart with the things that thrill His.
2.       How does the Holy Spirit want to use this passage in your life today?
3.       Is there anything that seems impossible to you right now? Ask God that what is impossible to you would be possible to Him. Ask Him to open your eyes to His work in this situation, even if it looks different than what you may think it should.
