New Testament Reading Plan: 2 Peter 1-3
SCRIPTURE READING
Psalm 66:18 If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. (NLT)
Psalm 32:5 I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess
my transgressions to the LORD,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. (ESV)
Today’s verses were written by David. We all know that David did some pretty big sins
(adultery and murder), yet was a man after God’s own heart. This seems like a contradiction
to us, yet David took his sin seriously and humbled himself before the Lord in repentance. It
was only then that he could enter into fellowship with God. It’s the same with us; we must get
a revelation of the seriousness of sin and of the fact that we are supposed to be saved from
our sins. Then confession and repentance start to look very attractive! When the Fear of God
begins to take root in our hearts we start to HATE the sin in our lives and feel remorse for our
character weaknesses. Confession and repentance become our best friends as they restore
our relationship with the Lord. When we acknowledge sin to the Lord instead of ignoring them;
when we confess sin to the Lord in brokenness, and say, “I’m sorry, please help me,” what we
are doing is humbling ourselves before God and God loves that! Scripture tells us that “God
opposes the proud, but gives GRACE to the humble.” According to James 4:6-10 one of the
key ways to humble ourselves is by cleansing ourselves from sin, which is confession and
repentance. This is amazing news! We don’t have to be perfect in order to have God on our
side; we only have to be humble. When we go to God and confess our sins and admit our
weaknesses, His Grace and power pours into our lives and we begin to be transformed into
new people!
PRAYER and MEDITATION
1. Pray that you would get a revelation of the seriousness of sin and that God would
continue to reveal to you the depths of the fear of the Lord. Pray that you would hate the
sin in your life and feel remorse for your character weaknesses.
2. Pray that you would grow in humility and dependence on God.
3. Praise God, that He pours His grace into our lives as we confess our sins and that He will
transform us into a new people!
