SCRIPTURE READING
1 Cor 1:18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are
being saved it is the power of God. (ESV)
1 Cor 15:1-2 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you
received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, IF you hold fast to the word I
preached to you— unless you believed in vain. (ESV)

In order to have a correct view of the life that God is calling us to live as Christians, we must
have a correct view of salvation. We have to get away from this idea we have that salvation
is a test you pass at some point in your life, and then it’s done, and you get your diploma that
says ‘I’m saved’ and you hang it on the wall, and everything’s good no matter what you do
after that. No! Salvation is a process that takes all your life to complete; it’s a journey; and it’s
a pathway on which you walk! Your salvation started in the past (when you received Christ
into your heart), it is continuing now and it will be completed in the future if you continue on
the right path. That’s why the first name for Christianity before it was called ‘The WAY’ and
you’ll find that name used in a bunch of different places throughout the book of Acts (see Acts
9:1-2; 24:14-15). This is beautiful language! It captures that salvation isn’t a onetime event in
your life. Salvation isn’t a little prayer that you said; it’s a way of life. It’s a path you walk. It’s
not something you once did; it’s a path you walk all your life. And everyone else can see that
you’re walking this path, because it’s a totally different path then the world walks. Christianity
isn’t a label on your wall, “I’m a Christian,” rather it’s a way of life.

PRAYER and MEDITATION

1. Ask the Lord to give you a word, thought or picture about the path that you are walking
on? Are you going the right way?
2. Can those around you (your family, friends, co-workers, neighbours) see the path that
you are on by your lifestyle? How is your path different from the world’s path?
3. Now ask the Lord to reveal to you areas where your path is similar to the world’s path.
Ask the Lord to forgive you for walking like they do. Pray that God would strengthen you
to completely surrender to Him.
