END TIMES READING PLAN: Psalm 102, 110

SCRIPTURE READING
Matt 9:15 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast. (NIV)
Matt 22:2 The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.  (NIV)

In John 9:15, Jesus refers to Himself as a bridegroom.  Jesus didn’t waste words, He used this language for a reason and He had a purpose for choosing each word.  So what does it mean for Jesus to be a Bridegroom, what is He revealing to us about Himself?  The essence of the Bridegroom message is Him calling us to learn about His emotions towards us and His commitment to us.  A proper understanding of this message awakens a wholehearted response towards Him in love and a desire to obey Him.  Jesus is no ordinary Bridegroom, for His leading and love is perfect.  He is not an abusive Husband; He is not a selfish but self sacrificing; Jesus is the perfect companion.  He will not hurt us; He only seeks our good and what is best for us, even if that seems hard for us at the time.  He is never forceful with us for He always allows us to choose to follow Him.  He is gracious, kind, gentle, yet firm and faithful.  AND, He is inviting us to learn about His emotions towards us.  A Bridegroom rejoices over His Bride, He is deeply committed to us.  That is a picture of how Jesus feels about you.

PRAYER and MEDITATION
1. Spend some time meditating on how Jesus calling Himself a Bridegroom represents His deep
    commitment to you.
2. In listening prayer, ask the Holy Spirit if you have any wrong views about marriage that is
affecting your ability to view Jesus as a loving Bridegroom.
3. Spend some time praising Jesus for being a wonderful Bridegroom, for being gracious, kind
and caring, firm yet faithful.  Tell Him that you believe these things to be true.
