END TIMES READING PLAN: Isaiah 28-29

SCRIPTURE READING
Gen 24:2, 4 Abraham said to his servant, the oldest of his household, who had charge of all that he had, "4go to my country and to my kindred, and take a wife for my son Isaac." (ESV)

Read Genesis 24. This passage of Scripture tells us two dramatic stories at the same time.  One is a spiritual story and the other a natural one.  The two stories intersect and overlap at significant points.  The spiritual story tells of the Father’s commitment to find a Bride for His Son.  It’s told symbolically in the natural story of Abraham’s commitment to find a bride for his son Isaac.  The details of the natural story illustrate truths that are taught in the New Testament.  It is important to note that every detail does not correspond to a New Testament truth but many events do.  Abraham is a picture of the heart of God the Father, filled with zeal to provide a wife for His Son.  Isaac is pictured as a type of Christ and the servant a type of the Holy Spirit’s ministry.  Rebekah represents the Church, the Bride of Christ.  She speaks of the Bride who wholeheartedly responds to the Holy Spirit.  This is a story of how grace strengthened the Bride to live in wholeheartedness.  It’s a story that represents how we can live in abandonment to God.  It’s a story that can inspire us to live a life of zeal and passion for Jesus.

PRAYER and MEDITATION
1. What can we learn about faith from the story in Genesis 24?

2. It’s amazing how God has woven Scripture together.  Reflect upon how the details of this story correspond to NT truths.  Spend some time praising God for the gift of Scripture, for the Holy Spirit who unlocks the Word in our hearts as we pursue Him.

3. Spend some time praying that you will have a similar reaction as Rebekah in being the Bride, that you will respond in wholeheartedness and live in abandonment to God.
