God is all-powerful

Revelation 19:6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters
and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: “Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. (NIV)
God possesses what no creature can – an incomprehensible plenitude of power. Since God is also
infinite, whatever He has must be without limit therefore God has limitless power. He is omnipotent.
God is also the source of all power. God delegates His power to His creatures but when He
does this He does not give any of it away because He cannot lose power. In today’s culture we
sometimes forget who God really is. In the Bible times, God was alive, personal and ruled their
world. Yet today, we often see God as dead, impersonal and apathetic to our world. There are
many errors in that attitude because God hasn’t changed; it’s us who have changed. We have
replaced God with science and scientific laws and theories. Science observes how the power of
God operates, discovers a pattern and then fixes it as a universal scientific law. The orderliness
of God and trustworthiness of His behaviour is the foundation for all scientific truth. Religion on
the other hand goes back to the nature of God. It is concerned in the One who is the source of all
things. The men of Scripture conversed with this God and found Him warm, intimate and deeply
satisfying. Nothing is too hard for God because He possesses all power; all His acts are done
without effort. He expends no energy therefore never needs to be replenished.

PRAYER and MEDITATION
1. Do you sometimes put limits on God’s power? This may not be easy to recognize; it probably
is very subtle – like making excuses for Him when He doesn’t heal someone or when your
prayers aren’t answered. God is not the root of these problems; we are…in what ways have
we incorrectly blamed God when He doesn’t do what we ask? Spend some time confessing
that we have not submitted fully to Him.
2. Have you reduced God down to principles or commandments to obey? Where are you at in
your personal, intimate relationship with Him? Do you find Him deeply satisfying and warm? If
not, invite Him to speak truth into your life in this area.
