Foundations: The Gospel of John - Day 11

The crowds are confused – is this the man who is the Christ?  Jesus describes again that He is from God and tells them that they don’t know God (v. 28).  Yet they can’t seize Him because it wasn’t His time (v. 30).  Jesus went on to prophecy His death, resurrection and ascension (v. 33-34).  The Pharisee’s incorrectly assumed this meant that Jesus intended to travel around the Mediterranean teaching the Greeks (v. 35-36).  Jesus then prophesied that He is the living water, meaning the filling of the Holy Spirit (v. 37-39). This divided the people (v. 43), some believed He was the Christ (v. 41), others could not get past the fact that He was from Galilee (v. 52) showing their prejudice.  On a side note, notice how Nicodemus, from chapter three, speaks up in support of Jesus (v. 50-51)!

PRAYER & MEDITATION
1.   Jesus life and teachings divided the people (v. 43).  Some believed He was a Prophet (v. 40); others said He is the Messiah (v. 41); still others wanted Him arrested (vs. 44).  Who is Jesus?  When this question is personalized, it becomes the most important question one will ever be asked or answer – it is the difference between an eternity in Heaven or Hell.  Who is Jesus to you?  If you believe He is your Saviour, will you also make Him your Lord?  Do you have a personal relationship with Him?
2.   You may call yourself a Christian and go to church regularly yet you may not know Him personally.  Talk about this with Him; ask Him what it will take for you to know Him personally.  In what ways can you make Him your Lord and friend, today?
3.   Thank Him for who He is and what He has done for you!
