In this chapter we see Jesus perform His first miracle – turning the
water into wine at a wedding feast. This was to honor His mother’s
request. We then read of the account of
Christ cleansing the Temple. He saw how
some were using the worship of God to make a profit so He drove out the
sacrificial animals they were selling.
He then prophesies of His own death (“destroy this temple and in three
days I will raise it up”). He is
declaring Himself to be God and to have power over death, although many did not
understand this.
JOURNALING AND PRAYER
1. What did Jesus mean in vs. 4 when He said that
His time had not yet come? See also John
7:6-8, and John 17:1. Do you sometimes
feel like your time has not come? Do you
find it hard waiting on God’s timing?
Dialogue with God about these things.
Ask Him to show you what He is doing in the meantime, as His timing is
perfect. Confess your lack of patience
and pray for your character to mature so that you will be ready when the timing
is right.
2. What does Jesus actions in vs. 15-17 tell you about
the importance of holiness? What can we learn from vs. 17? Is this present in your life? Spend some time in prayer about this; what
does God want to tell you about it?
3. Spend some time in listening prayer, asking God
to show you areas in your own life where your character needs improving. Spend some time confessing these things as
sin and then move into praying about how you can be obedient to Him in these
areas.
