BIBLE IN A YEAR: Daniel 4-6 and 1 John 4

SCRIPTURE READING
Genesis 2:8 (NKJV) The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put
the man whom He had formed.

In Genesis, God personally planted a garden for Adam to live in. God chose a garden as
the place where He would meet with man, the place of relationship and encounter with
God.
Man’s primary task was to tend the garden, the place of relationship, the place of
encounter. Delighting in relationship with God was man’s primary occupation. He was to
nurture the place of encounter with God, to feed the place of passion, to weed its beds and
to aid its seasons of beauty. Humans were made for encounter with God.
Genesis 2:15 (NKJV) Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden
to tend and keep it.
The most important thing man can do is nurture the place of encounter with his Maker.
Nurture will not come through the depth of your knowledge about God but by cultivating a
life of relationship with God. Humanity can not function outside of communion with God.
Man was made for God to reflect God.

PRAYER and MEDITATION
1. Ask God to show you practical, specific things you can do to nurture the place of
encounter with Him. This may include having daily devotions, spending time in prayer,
going to the prayer room, going to After Service Prayer, etc.
2. Ask God to help you follow through on the things that He has shown you.
3. Write a prayer to God, thanking Him that you were made to have a relationship with Him
and to encounter Him. Thanks Him that He is not distant but that He desires a
    relationship with you.
