Bible Poetry Reading Plan: Job 33-34
What about Time?
Revelation 22:2 On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding
its fruit every month. (NIV)
Revelation 8:1 When He opened the seventh seal; there was silence in Heaven for about half an
hour. (NIV)
Revelation 7:15 Therefore, “they are before the throne of God and serve Him day and night in His
temple; and He who sits on the throne will spread His tent over them. (NIV)
Some people are afraid to go to Heaven because they can’t comprehend something that is eternal,
that Heaven is forever. Isn’t forever a really long time? They fear that if we live forever and ever
without end that life is going to eventually become boring. One of the reasons that people have this
fear is because they hold a false view that eternity and time cannot co-exist. But if you take time
out of the equation then what you are left with is one big bright unchanging never-ending moment
for all eternity. There are a lot of Scriptures that talk about time in Heaven (three of them are listed
above, as today’s verses). The Bible is very clear that there will be time on the New Earth. We
have a wrong concept of time here on earth. In this present age, time means aging, it means that
people die and we are separated from them, it means that things that we have been looking forward
to come and end, the passage of time is often seen as a bad thing – people crave youth and vitality,
not becoming old and aged. Yet on the New Earth there will be no death and decay, the passage of
time will not be a negative thing. You will always have more to look forward to then you’ve had so far
in the past.
PRAYER and MEDITATION
1. How does a correct concept of time in eternity motive you to want to go to Heaven?
2. On earth we often equate time with aging and therefore see the passage of time as negative.
How will these things be changed on the New Earth?
3. What things are you looking forward to in regards to the New Earth?
4. Pray that as a church we would grow in our understanding of Heaven and that this would
motivate us to do Kingdom work and bring in the Harvest.
