Bible Poetry Reading Plan: Proverbs 8-9
Our Greatest Joy

Psalm 63:1 O God, You are my God; earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh faints
for You, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. (ESV)

Being with God is the heart and soul of Heaven. Every other Heavenly pleasure will derive from
and be secondary to His presence. God’s greatest gift to us will always be Himself. To see God
will be our greatest joy, this is the wonder of our redemption – to be welcomed into the presence
of our Lord and to see Him face-to-face. David longed for this in Psalm 27:4, “One thing have I
asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of
my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.” David was preoccupied
with God, He longed to be where God was and to gaze on His beauty. To see God’s face is to
behold His beauty. Jesus said, blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God (Matt. 5:8). In
Heaven the barriers between God and man will forever be gone. Eden’s greatest attraction was
God’s presence. The greatest tragedy of sin and the curse was that God no longer dwelt with His
people. His presence came back in a small way in the Holy of Holies in the Tabernacle and the
Temple. One day, Christ will return and make a new people, a New Earth, and a new universe in
which He will dwell among His people, fully and freely. To see Jesus – what could be greater? The
most exhilarating experiences on Earth will seem tame in comparison to the thrill of seeing Jesus.
Being with Him, gazing at Him, talking with Him, worshipping Him, embracing Him, eating with Him, walking with Him, laughing with Him…imagine!!!

PRAYER and MEDITATION
1. How does seeing Jesus face to face excite you?
2. David longed to be with God and was preoccupied with beholding Him. Pray that this longing
would grow in your heart; that you would earnestly desire to dwell with Him for all eternity.
3. Of all the pleasures of Heaven, being with God will be the greatest. The cool thing is that
you can know Him now; you don’t have to wait until Heaven. Ask the Lord to deepen your
relationship with Him. Pray that He would truly become your closest friend.
4. What are some of the things that God has revealed to you about Himself and about Heaven
through this month’s devotionals? Thank Him for these things.
