BIBLE IN A YEAR: Isaiah 41-42 and Colossians 4
THE LONGING FOR BEAUTY
SCRIPTURE READING
We exert much energy and spend a great deal of time and money to fix things about ourselves that we consider less than attractive. We powder, primp, comb and cover whatever we can to look our best. We long to feel attractive and beautiful and this longing is an expression of God. We are all meant to feel beautiful before God and there is something powerful that happens when we do. This is not just a female thing! This is part of our redemption, the fact that through Jesus the broken, hopeless, sin-ridden, even demonized can be beautiful!
It is perfectly acceptable to enhance one’s physical appearance; however, we must be careful that this does not become an obsession. We must go to God to experience real beauty, for God Himself is the source of all beauty and is beautiful. God says that He will give us the beauty of God. You were made to be beautiful, to show forth God’s beauty to the rest of creation around you. Instead of denying your longing for beauty or going about filling this longing in a worldly way, we must go to God for this longing to be filled. The beauty of God changes our countenance, changes our personality.
PRAYER MEDITATION
1. In what ways have you been filling your longing for beauty in worldly ways? In what ways have you chosen to spend time and money on the outside instead of on the inside?2. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you understanding of the beauty that you posses because of your redemption, ask Him to show you who you really are as His heir.
3. Spend some time in thanksgiving, praising God for the beauty that He has bestowed upon you. Thank Him for his love and grace
