BIBLE IN A YEAR: Isaiah 33-35 and Colossians 1

THE LONGING TO BE ENJOYED BY GOD

SCRIPTURE READING
Isaiah 6:1-3 (NIV) 1In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted... 2 above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

The seraphs are the beings that are most near the throne of God; they continually bow and cover their eyes in response to God’s beauty. They cry “Holy, holy, holy”. They can never reach the limit of the greatness of God. God has created us with a need to be fascinated, a craving to marvel, we long to be filled with wonder. The secular entertainment industry has been built on this longing but it is no match for the fascinating God of the universe. I Corinthians 2:9 tells us that “no eye has seen, no mind has conceived what He has in store for those who love Him”. Our highest imagination cannot perceive the beauty of God. We must be fascinated with Him or else we will become spiritually bored, spiritually dull and spiritually passive.

PRAYER  MEDITATION
1. Have you ever thought about never reaching the limit of the greatness and beauty of God, how there is always more of Him for you to be fascinated with? What impact does this have on you?

2. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you areas where you have gotten your fascination from worldly things, like secular entertainment, instead of from Him. Confess as necessary.

3. Pray that God will work in your heart so that you can be drawn to Him and become fascinated by Him. Pray that you will resist the pull of wicked ways of fulfilling your longing for fascination.
