THE LONGING FOR FASCINATION

SCRIPTURE READING
Psalm 27:4 (NIV) One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the
house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to
seek him in his temple.

Seeking the Lord’s beauty was a life-long curiosity of King David. This man had the entire
kingdom of Israel under his leadership and was the most powerful man on the planet at the
height of his reign YET, encountering God was the focus of his life. He made it his entire
life ambition to get one more look, one more glance, just one more gaze at His God.

We often see things here on earth that we couldn’t have dreamed would be so beautiful; a
sunset, the Grand Canyon, the ocean. If a earthly creation of God can inspire such beauty,
how can we even imagine the beauty of that Creator Himself? We have a beautiful God
that is beckoning us to be fascinated with Him, but to understand His beauty we must
understand the time and energy to begin searching the depths of God. We must take the
time and energy to study the Scriptures. We cannot substitute ministry, recreation, career,
entertainment and family or we will grow depleted. We must throw ourselves headfirst into
the pursuit of experiencing God.

PRAYER  MEDITATION
1. Can you relate to David’s lifelong pursuit of focusing on God, pursing Him? Does this sound weird to you or is this something you are interested in growing in?

2. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you in which areas you have been substituting ministry,
recreation, career, entertainment or family over pursuing God Himself? Confess as necessary.

3. Pray that God would give you the strength to put Him first, as your primary pursuit. Pray that you would grow in seeking Him and gazing on Him, as David did.
