History Books in 90 Days: Ruth 3-4
KING

Forecast: Jeremiah 23:5 5”Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will raise up
for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice
and righteousness in the land.(ESV)
Fulfillment: Matthew 2:2 “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star
when it rose and have come to worship him.” (ESV)

Jesus was born a King! Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain was born a princess and only became
Queen upon the death of her father, King George. Her son Charles was born a prince and will not
be King unless his mother dies or abdicates. Yet Jesus was born a King! This is because Jesus
lived before He was born, as the Sovereign Lord, He is an eternal King from eternity past to eternity
future. Jesus is King of kings. Yet His birthplace was a stable, not a palace. His throne was His
mother’s knee, His courtiers the lowly shepherds and His robes were swaddling clothes. Truly He
was a King in disguise. Jesus was born a King yet He came to serve, He came to be a sacrifice for
sin. Just before He died He said, “No one takes my life from me but I lay it down willingly.” In other
words, Jesus said, “no one is going to force me to die, but I the King, lay down my life, my body,
upon the cross, willingly.” Philippians 2:9-11 tells us 9Therefore God has highly exalted him and
bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee
should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Can you put your HOPE in this King?

PRAYER and MEDITATION
1. In what areas of your life are you vying for recognition? Are you willing to let go of this and
walk in deeper humility in that area?
2. Jesus came to serve, are you following His example by serving in the Church? Are you
holding on to a particular ministry area or are you serving where He wants you to serve?
3. Spend some time praising Jesus, the KING, who became a baby, He deserves your praise,
bow your knee to Him in submission.
