History Books in 90 Days: 1 Samuel 1-3
GOVERNOR
Forecast: Zechariah 9:7 …he shall be as a governor in Judah… (KJV)
Fulfillment: Matthew 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art not the least among the
princes of Judah: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. (KJV)
Another word for Governor is ruler or leader. According to Strong’s Concordance it means “to
go before, to be a leader, the leader in speech, chief spokesman, to have authority over, to
command, have rule over, a prince, one of regal power, controlling in counsel, overseers or
leaders of the churches”. Jesus is the greatest Governor there ever was or ever will be. He is still
ruling as Head of the Church. I would encourage you to read Revelation 2-3 in order to perceive
Jesus as the Governor or Overseer of His Churches. In these chapters we see Jesus guiding and
counselling seven churches. He gives them guidance, direction and warnings. He does the same
for Southland as the leaders listen to Him. Jesus is the functional Lord of this Church! Some
Governors rise from the ranks and become tyrants who are unsympathetic but our Heavenly
Governor rules with love and sways our souls not by the sword but by His scars, what HOPE
this brings! Isaiah tells us that “the increase of His government shall know no end” (Isaiah 9:7).
Universal domination will belong to Him when He reigns from shore to shore upon His second
coming. For now, can you say that He has more of you today than He had yesterday? Is His love
breaking down barriers in your heart and drawing you near to Him?
PRAYER and MEDITATION
1. Jesus wants to be the Governor of your life. He wants to call the shots. In what areas have
you been doing your own thing instead of listening to Him in prayer for direction? Confess
this as sin.
2. Then, spend some time listening in prayer in those areas. Let Him guide and direct you and
be Governor or Lord of your life.
3. Spend some time in thanksgiving for the way He rules with love! Pray that you would submit
to His leadership and that you would grow in giving more and more of yourself over to Him.
