The Law in 90 Days: Genesis 1-2
SCRIPTURE READING
Proverbs 1:5-6 (NIV); let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get
guidance—for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.
The Bible is full of simple truths. No, the Christian life is not always simple, but the truths upon
which our faith is built are simple. In the first chapter of Proverbs, Solomon tells his audience
why he has taken the time to record the subsequent sayings. In his reasoning above, he states
that we can grow in wisdom by listening and learning to the proverbs and parables of the wise.
Of course Jesus is well-known as a parable-teller. He spoke in simple stories which opened the
eyes of the seekers and hardened the hearts of the worldly-wise.
Simple truths are understood and implemented when our hearts are actually set to seek
after truth. When we are able to put aside what we would like the Bible to say and look solely
on what it does say because we want to know the will of the Lord, our eyes catch the light.
Through the lens of humility and selflessness we catch a glimpse of the vision of God, and the
truth resonates deeply within us.
We try to complicate things. The old adage “with age comes wisdom” has caused us to deem
basic truths of the gospel as “childish” and “Sunday School-ish”. Age releases us to explore
and analyze in new ways, but we must keep our heart planted firmly in the faith-filled ground of
the childlike if we want to know the wisdom of our Maker.

PRAYER and MEDITATION
1. Brainstorm: What are some of the basic truths of the gospel message? What are some
basic truths of the character of God? What are some simple, yet profound promises of
God from Scripture? Meditate on these things, and look through your Bible if you need to
be reminded.
2. Do you believe these truths? If so, how is your belief seen in the way that you live?
3. Ask God how you can share simple truths with those around you today. Commit to being
intentional with specific people and situations that the Holy Spirit shows you. LOOK for
these opportunities with single-mindedness today.
