The Law in 90 Days: Exodus 23-24
SCRIPTURE READING
Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV); looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
Faith, without faith it is impossible to please God. Faith is essential for our walk with God. Without
faith there is no approach to God, no forgiveness, no deliverance, no salvation, no communion,
no spiritual life at all. Faith is a must in our pursuit of God therefore we must be deeply concerned
over whether or not we possess it. Too many Christians spend all their time and energy trying to
define faith instead of trying to exercise it. That is a great error in our walk with God for it is better
to exercise faith than to know its definition. In Hebrews when we are told to look to Jesus, the
author and finisher of our faith we learn that faith is not a once-done act but a continuous gaze of
the heart at God. It’s turning our heart’s attention towards Jesus, its lifting our head to behold the
Lamb of God and never ceasing that beholding for the rest of our lives. There are many things that
can hinder us along the way but the committed heart, after each brief disruption, will return again to
the gazing. Over time the distractions will lessen and the gazing will grow deeper and deeper.
PRAYER and MEDITATION
1. How would you define faith? Why is faith so important in our walk with God? Why can we not
pursue God without it?
2. Have you been trying to develop your faith on your own or have you been looking to Jesus as
the author of your faith? What would it mean for you to look to Jesus instead of doing it on
your own?
3. Pray that God would teach you to exercise faith and grow you faith. Pray that you would
never cease to gaze on Him and turn your full attention towards Him. Pray that as a church
we would have a strong foundation of faith.
