The Law in 90 Days: Exodus 37-38
SCRIPTURE READING
Matthew 18:3 (ESV); Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will
never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Sin plays many tricks on us and one of these tricks is infusing on us the false sense of shame.
For many people, the fear of being “found out” gnaws at us like rodents in our hearts. This fear
kills our hearts little by little and makes growing in humility almost impossible. What if people
find out who you really are? What if they see your deepest hidden sins?
The root of this is pride and there is no release from these fears until one takes on the humility
of Christ. Jesus offers us rest from the weariness of pretense. It’s time to release ourselves
from pretending. What is one way to do this? Jesus gives us the answer in today’s verse – we
must become like little children. Little children do not compare; they receive direct enjoyment
from what they have without relating it to something else or someone else. Only as they get
older and sin begins to stir within their hearts do jealousy and envy appear. Children also
readily confess their sin and ask for help if they need it. Are you willing to finally go to an
Encounter and deal with the issues in your life? When you do this God will be able to set
you free, at last. We must cry out to God to become childlike, asking Him to deliver us from
the urge to compete with another for a place of prestige or position…we must ask Him to
help us become as simple as a child. We must pray that He would deliver us from thinking
of ourselves first and Him last. If we are going to grow in our pursuit of God then we must
humble ourselves before Him so that we can find rest.
PRAYER and MEDITATION
1. What is an area of sin that causes you to feel a false sense of shame in which you feel
a struggle with the fear of being found out? Confess this as pride and ask the Lord to
forgive you.
2. Ask the Lord what steps you need to take in order to break the bondage that this sin has
in your life. Do you need to go to an Encounter?
3. Pray that God would help you think of Him first, that you would grow in humility and find
freedom and rest in Him.
