Prophet’s Reading Plan: Amos 1-3

Members of a Covenant: Governed by a Holy God
Read Psalm 99

As followers of Christ, we must submit to God’s kingship in our lives. This psalm leaves no room for us to view God as an inactive figurehead; He is living and dynamic, reigning over His people with justice!
The psalm gives examples of people whom He used to lead Israel in worshipping and following God. All of them saw the holiness of God and sought His presence. All interceded on behalf of their people and thus they and the people experienced blessing. God chose servants such as these to stand in the gap for His people in order that they might be forgiven.
We are called to this same level of faith and obedience as we – the church – have also been called a chosen people and a royal priesthood! We are governed by a holy and forgiving God and He is looking for humble servants to do His will.

Overview
Verses 1-3: The Lord is great and holy
Verses 4-5: The Lord reigns with justice
Verses 6-8: Examples of those who lead the people in worship
Verse 9: Let us praise and worship God

PRAYER AND MEDITATION

1)   What are some things about your King that make it very easy for you to submit to Him? Is there anything about Him that makes it difficult? If so, think about why you feel that way and ask Him to speak into those feelings.
2)   God loves justice! Isn’t it wonderful that our God does not tolerate wickedness and perversions of justice? He fights for the weak. Spend some time praying for those you know who are weak, whether spiritually, emotionally or physically. Pray that God would fight for them and bring them justice.
3)   Ask God what He would like from you as His servant today.
