The Nature of Man: Forgiveness
for Sin
Read Psalm 32
This is a psalm of repentance. It begins with the
declaration of one who has truly experienced the freedom that comes with
repentance because of the forgiveness that is given by God alone. Verses 3-5
describe a very relatable experience: the anguish brought about by the guilt of
unconfessed sin and the relief that comes with confession and forgiveness.
As sinful human beings, confession and repentance will be
part of our lives until Christ comes, and praise Jesus that forgiveness is a
gift freely given! Only He can remove guilt! Let us not keep sins hidden in the
depths of our hearts; rather, let’s be quick to confess to God and to others
that we may share in David’s experience here. Then we will sing with the
psalmist, “the LORD’S unfailing love
surrounds the man who trusts in Him”!

PRAYER AND MEDITATION
1) Do you have any unconfessed sin that
you have shoved deep into your heart for fear of bringing to light? If so, can
you trust Jesus and confess it today, to Him and to others involved?
2) Read the entire psalm again. What are
the blessings that are experienced by those who put their trust in God and
confess their sin? When have you experienced these?
3) Thank God that, though sinfulness is
our nature, we can experience life, forgiveness and unfailing love through Him!
