Prophet’s Reading Plan: Amos 4-7

Members of a Covenant: Blessings for the Upright
Read Psalm 112

This is an exciting song, full of blessing! There is great benefit for those who fear the Lord and love His commands! This love for His commands is not a legalistic rule-following; it is obedience sprung out of genuine love for God.
The righteous man is promised that the generations of his offspring will be blessed, and indeed, as godly men and women raise godly children and those children grow to raise godly children and so on, a strong and godly family heritage develops. “Light dawns in the darkness for the upright.” What a promise! When life seems dark, God will send rays of hope. This is definitely true for believers in the persecuted church around the world who live in wretched prison cells and yet live to love God and others, even their persecutors.
The righteous man is not afraid of bad news because He trusts in God; He loves God’s law which teaches that God is faithful and true!

Overview
Verse 1: Blessed is the man who fears the Lord and loves His commands
Verses 2-9: The blessing described
Verse 10: The response of the wicked

PRAYER AND MEDITATION

1)   Have you experienced any of these blessings as a result of loving and obeying God? Ask God to open your eyes to various blessings (even those not listed here) that He has given you because of your commitment to Him.
2)   What do you long for when you read this song? Do you want to grow in faith and obedience? Do you want an increase in courage? Do you want to release materialism? Whatever stirs in your heart, ask God that it would become a reality.
3)   Spend some time praying for the offspring and subsequent generation that you have/are/will raise. Pray that they, too, would delight in the commands of the lord and love to do what is right.
