Prophet’s Reading Plan: Daniel 3-4

The Nature of God: God of Power & Glory
Read Psalm 29

This psalm describes the incredible power and glory of God. The first two verses use the word “ascribe” – give! Give credit to God! All Scripture preaches the truth that God is above all, the Eternal One who alone is to be worshipped. David reminds us of that here: Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name. Give God what He is due! Where do we even begin?!
The psalm describes a great storm, calling it “the voice of the LORD.” Psalm 19 needs one to be in view of the sun when truly resonating with its truth, and Psalm 8 needs the night sky, but Psalm 29 needs a storm. In the tempest we see the power and glory of God. We cannot attribute the wonders of nature to nature itself; nature is no creator or force of power on its own. Here we are reminded that God is the Source of all things. His power and presence over creation gives us glimpse into His glory. And the profound truth that closes the song reminds us of just how personal our God is: though He has power over heaven and earth, He is also the God of great peace.

Overview
Verses 1-2: The Lord deserves worship for His glory
Verses 3-9: The voice of the Lord is powerful
Verses 10-11: The Lord enthroned, interacting with His people

PRAYER AND MEDITATION

1)   How can you ascribe to the Lord today? How can you give Him the glory and strength that is due to Him?
2)   Read through the Psalm again and write down what it teaches you about who God is and what He is like. Then spend time worshipping Him for these things.
3)   Clearly our God is strong. What situation in your life do you need God’s powerful strength and strong peace? Ask Him for it!
