Christ offers us encouragement.
He comforts us with His love. He offers us fellowship through the Spirit, as
well as affection and compassion. When we see Christ working in our lives, the
only appropriate response is to become more like Him (v 1-2). This is why we
are called to “work out our salvation with fear and trembling” (v 12). As we
open our lives more to God we grow in knowledge of who He is. As this happens
we will recognize that not only is He loving and kind, He is also holy and
worthy of our reverence. He calls us to worship Him by submitting our lives to
His will. Regardless of what God asks of us, it is never too much in light of
who He is to us.
Prayer
and Meditation
1. We are called to look
out for the interests of others because this was Christ’s attitude. Ask the
Holy Spirit to reveal any areas of selfishness in your life. Confess and repent
as necessary.
2. Ask God for one
practical way you can look out for the interests of another person today.
Commit to following through.
3. Thank God for the
people who’ve sacrificed time, energy and other resources in order to help you
in your walk with Christ. Let the Holy Spirit show you how you can intercede
for these people today.
