When we are aware of
what is to come, we can be prepared. If we know it is dipping below freezing
overnight we wake up early in the morning to warm up our cars and scrape our
windshields. If you don’t know what happens to a car left in subzero
temperatures, you won’t know how to care for your vehicle. You might not even
be able to start your car. This principle applies to Jesus’ Second Coming. We
need not fear or worry about knowing every minute detail related to His Return.
However, basic knowledge of what the Bible says about the End Times can prepare
us. We can use this knowledge to spur us to more passionate, wholehearted walks
with Jesus and this will prepare us for His Return.
Prayer
and Meditation
1.
Where
is your heart in regards to Jesus’ Second Coming? Are you afraid, uncertain,
focussed on knowledge but without a relationship with our Lord? Ask God to
search your heart and speak truth to you about the End Times.
2. Right after writing
about Jesus’ Second Coming Paul tells the Thessalonians to “encourage and build
up one another.” Godly community is vital in preparing for Jesus’ return. Ask
God to show you how you can encourage or build up another believer today.
3.
Pray
for the people you plan to encounter today. After you’re done ask the Holy
Spirit to empower you to grow in praying without ceasing (5:17). Ask Him to
prompt you throughout the day to send out short, direct prayers for each new
person you encounter.
