1 Timothy, 2 Timothy
and Titus are known as the pastoral letters – letters written by Paul on the
topic of leading the church. Even though most of us are not in charge of a
church, we can learn many lessons from these letters. Every person is a leader
in the sense that we each have influence over other people. How we act at home,
at work or with friends will do one of two things: it can challenge people to
live godly lives or it can give them permission to sin.
1 Timothy 2 contains a
commonly misinterpreted passage on women. A proper discussion is beyond the
scope of Foundations, but I would encourage you to review the 2011 message
series “Gender Roles in Marriage and Ministry,” which is available at
www.mysouthland.com or in the church library.
Prayer
and Meditation
1.
Jesus
is our Redeemer. Meditate on 1 Timothy 1:12-16. Thank Him for anything He shows
you.
2.
The
specific, personal words God speaks to us can give us “confidence to fight well
in the Lord’s battles.” Ask God to remind you of words and promises He has
given you.
3.
Pray
for our leaders in government according to 1 Timothy 2:1-4.
