Foundations November 22, 2012

Read 1 Timothy 3
In your journal, write down the things that stick out to you from today’s Bible reading. Respond to what God shows you as you feel led (confession, thanksgiving, etc.)
1 Timothy 3 gives an overview of what the life of a leader should look like. Leaders are people who go somewhere first and then guide people on the path to this destination. It, therefore, makes sense that church leaders would be held to such high standards of conduct. Their behaviour will influence the people they lead. Church leaders’ behaviour is also used as a measuring stick of the church by people o the outside. If a leader’s life is marked by sin or immaturity it will result in disaster; but if a leader’s life is marked by godliness it will result in blessing for all those around him.

Prayer and Meditation
1.      Look back over this chapter. Let the Holy Spirit speak to you about how you’re doing in the character traits Paul describes. As He speaks, respond with confession, prayer for help or thanksgiving as necessary.
2.      Parenting is one of the most influential positions of leadership. Pray for parents you know (and for yourself if you have children), that their lives would be marked by the character described in 1 Timothy 3.
