Life with Christ is
abundant and purposeful. God saves us that we might know His mercy and great
love. He desires that we would spend our time on earth doing the good things He
designed us to do (v 10). However, life without Him is bleak and meaningless. Before
we submitted ourselves to Jesus’ leadership, we lived according to the desires
and passions of our sinful nature. As Christians it is all too easy to forget
that many of the people we interact with daily are still slaves to sin. They
are living apart from Christ, not part of God’s people and not knowing His
promises. They live in this world without God and without hope (v 12). This is
one of the saddest statements in Scripture and it is a true description of our
world. For example, most universities teach that we are merely the result of
random evolution – a body and a brain with no real purpose for being here. Our
world is lost and desperate. We must become urgent for Christ to restore
people’s lives and shine His light in the darkness.
Prayer and Meditation
1.
Ask
God to show you one person in your life who you should share Jesus with. Pray
for specific guidance in how to do this. Commit to praying for this person
regularly.
2.
God
doesn’t discriminate; He desires all people to be saved (vs. 14-17). Are there
any people or groups that you avoid ministering to? Confess and ask for
compassion for these people.
3.
Pray
for Southland to continue to grow in our burden to reach those who don’t have a
relationship with Jesus Christ. Pray that God would prompt people who love Him
with specific ways to reach out to the unsaved.
