Foundations November 24, 2012

Read 1 Timothy 5-6
In your journal, write down the things that stick out to you from today’s Bible reading. Respond to what God shows you as you feel led (confession, thanksgiving, etc.)
As Christians we are to love God, not money. Money is not evil it itself, but it can lead people away from God when they put their trust in it. Nothing is certain in this world except for God Himself. We can focus our energies on making ourselves rich on earth, but this will not carry over into eternity. However, the good works, acts of faith and steps of obedience to God that we take will create eternal riches. This is why the Scriptures say, “Godliness with contentment is great gain” (6:6).

Prayer and Meditation
1.      Even though we are called to work, we must recognize that God owns everything and He is the one who keeps us clothed and fed. Do you trust God as your Provider? Are you willing to follow Him even if it means you won’t earn as much money?
2.      Look over how you manage your finances. Are you content with what you have? Is Jesus functional Lord of your budget? Allow Him to speak to you about your spending habits. If you’d like to gain more information about godly financial management, consider signing up for the Fresh Start Financial course at Southland.
3.      Pray for the widows in our community. Pray that God would reveal Himself as ever-present so that they wouldn’t feel lonely. Pray that He would show them how they can make the most out of the rest of their time on earth.
