Foundations November 25, 2012

Read 2 Timothy 1
In your journal, write down the things that stick out to you from today’s Bible reading. Respond to what God shows you as you feel led (confession, thanksgiving, etc.)
Paul wrote his second letter to Timothy while he was imprisoned, awaiting execution. This letter was an offering of strength to Timothy. Even in the face of persecution, Timothy is told to “not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord” (v 8) and to join in suffering for His names’ sake. How many of us, if we saw our friends and mentors facing execution for their faith would react with boldness and perseverance? This is impossible on our own effort. When our faith is under pressure we must lean on the gifts God has given us and His spirit of power, love and self-discipline (vs 6-7).

Prayer and Meditation
1.      Meditate on verse 7. What does this mean in your life? Commit to memorizing this verse.
2.      Ask the Holy Spirit if you’ve ever been ashamed of God. Confess any situations He shows you.
3.      Pray for someone you know who’s going through a hard time in life right now.
