Read Galatians

Paul’s
teaching to the Galatians centers on one topic: we are made right because of
our faith in Christ, not because of our good works. However, we cannot
disregard the law entirely. God created it for a purpose. The law showed us how
guilty we are. By seeing how short we fall of God’s standards, we’re reminded
of our need for a Saviour. The law was also a revelation of God’s mercy. He
gave Israel a set of rules to keep them safe from evil until they could place
their faith in Christ’s salvation. To put it another way, “The law was our
guardian and teacher to lead us until Christ came” (v 24 NLT). We are blessed
today to have such knowledge of Christ through the Scriptures. We can rejoice
because Jesus took the punishment for our sins so all people can be made whole
and welcomed into God’s family.
Prayer
and Meditation
1.
Think
back over your life. How did God first reveal your need of a Saviour to you?
When did you first respond by putting your faith in Him? Thank God for the gift
of salvation by faith.
2.
“Do
I actually believe that I’m made right before God because of faith, not my own
good works?” Spend some time meditating on this. Ask God to show you the true
condition of your heart on this.
3.
Jesus
died that all might be made pleasing to God. But He leaves us with the choice
to follow in obedience or live our lives apart from Him. Spend some time
interceding for someone you know who hasn’t yet put their faith in Christ. Ask
God for specific, practical things you can pray for this person.
