Prophet’s Reading Plan: Jeremiah 49-50
Wisdom
Read: Psalm 1
This
Psalm is packed full of wisdom and has often been considered as the preface for
the entire book of Psalms. It is the Psalmists desire to teach the way
to blessedness and to warn us of the destructiveness of sin. What is the path to blessedness? It’s embracing His Law, delighting in the “law of the Lord...meditating on it day and
night.” We often think of meditation
on God’s Word as being our devotional time.
Yet verse 2 talks about it being day and night. God wants to be part of every aspect of our
lives and not just relegated to a few short minutes during our devotion
time. The Psalmist didn’t read God’s
Word and then forget it; he mediated on it throughout the day. The more we mediate on God’s Word throughout
the day the more likely we are to obey it.
Yes, we must read Scripture everyday but we must also dialogue with God,
think about His will, His decrees and His ways all throughout the day. He wants to be part of every decision that we
make. This is how we get deep
roots. It is impossible for a tree to
have high branches without deep roots or it would become top heavy and fall
over in the wind. We too need deep
spiritual roots based on God’s commands and our relationship with Him. That only comes through a life of Bible
reading, prayer, discipline, obedience and tested faith.

PRAYER AND MEDITATION
1. In
what ways are the faithful and the wicked compared and contrasted in this
Psalm? What is the final outcome of the lives of the righteous and
sinners? How is this just?
2. What
is the pathway that leads to becoming a strong tree with deep roots? Ask the Lord to speak to you about this
journey in your own life.
3. Thank
God for the gift of His Word and the supernatural impact that it has on our
lives!
