Prophet’s Reading Plan: Ezekiel 1- 4

Personal Lament

Read: Psalm 5

This Psalm of David is more of an individual lament. It begins with calling out to God; there is a sense of urgency as well as expectation.  David appeals to God on the basis of God’s character.  He knows that God is one who delights in justice and righteousness.   David has chosen to trust in God’s steadfast love and has made a decision to enter into God’s house (vs. 7).  He trusts in God’s leadership and that God will make His way straight before Him (vs. 8).  He then acknowledges that evil will end with destruction and He prays that their schemes will fail.  The Psalm concludes with the key to it all, assurance in God.  Verse 11-12 are a prayer that those who trust in the Lord will find refuge in Him and rejoice and sing for joy in the protection of the Almighty.

Overview:
Verses 1-3: Calling out for the Lord’s help
Verses 4-6: God loves Justice
Verses 7-8: Confidence in God
Verses 9-10:  The outcome of evil choices
Verses 11-12: Assurance in God

PRAYER AND MEDITATION
1.   What are some of God’s character traits that David writes about in this Psalm?  (Example, God hears our voice, vs. 3).
2.   God loves justice (vs. 4-6), this means that all His ways are just and He loves what is right.  Praise Him for this; thank Him that this is something we can depend on.
3.   It is the faithful who have assurance in God (vs. 11-12).  Pray that God will grow the faithfulness of His people in our church and in your individual life.  Ask Him to show you ways in which He is calling you to be faithful to Him.
