Prophet’s Reading Plan: Ezekiel 13-15
The Law (God’s Word)
Read: Psalm 19
In singing
this Psalm of David, the people celebrate God’s Law. As a young shepherd boy, David had devoted
himself to the study of God’s Word and the study of nature. We see both of these things in this
Psalm. As believers, we can see the
fingerprint of God everywhere in the world as the “heavens declare the glory of God” (vs. 1). Verses 7-11 describe the greatest treasure on
earth, the Word of God. It is declared
perfect (vs. 7) and right (vs. 8). It
revives the soul making the reader turn back to the Lord; this is the practical
effect of the Word of God – to turn the sinner back to the Lord, to God and to
holiness. We must spend adequate time in
the Word. For many, it’s easier to read
books written by men or women but we must remember that although many authors
are inspired to write by the Holy Spirit, their words are still man’s comment
on God’s Word. The Bible itself is God’s
pure Word. When we read God’s Word we
are doing more than just checking something off of a to-do list. The conclusion of the matter comes in verse
14, a sweet prayer that the writer’s life becomes so transformed by the Word of
God that his entire life is pleasing to God.
