Prophet’s Reading Plan: Jeremiah 39-41

Creation

Read: Psalm 104

This Psalm could be described as a hymn to the Creator by praising Him for both His creation and His Sovereignty.  The song includes land and sea, cloud and sunlight, plant and animal, light and darkness, life and death.  The writer’s spirit of praise runs through the entire Psalm allowing the reader to easily see that he had personal experience with this God.  All throughout the Psalm the reader finds that the writer trusts in God as well as adores Him.  Scripture does not tell us who authored this Psalm, although many believe it was David.  Although the writer may never be known, the inspiration of the Holy Spirit is plain to all who read this Psalm.  Praise is due our Lord, His glory is everlasting.  Creatures change but with the Creator there is no variation.  We have much to praise and thank Him for!

Overview:
Verses 1-6: The writer praises the Lord and then sings of the light and the firmament, which were the work of the 1st and 2nd day of creation
Verses 7-18: Description of the separation of the waters from the dry land, the formation of rain, brooks and rivers and the plants that grow
Verses 19-23: Description of the sun and moon (day and night)
Verses 24-30: Description of the animals of the air, sea and land
Verses 31-35: After contemplating creation the Psalmist concludes with a meditation, hymn and prayer

PRAYER AND MEDITATION
1.   What are some aspects of nature where you can see the magnificence and greatness of God?
2.   What should be our response when we see God’s love, care and sovereignty over nature?
3.   When the Psalmist saw nature, he saw a mighty God and his response was praise, rejoicing and singing.  Pray that our church would grow in seeing a mighty God when they see His creation.  That we would grow in responding to His creation with praise!
