Prophet’s Reading Plan: Jeremiah 42-44

Historical

Read: Psalm 136

We live in a world where it’s here one day and gone the next.  The brand new car ages and becomes old and in need of repairs.  The same can be said of our houses, clothes, furnishings and even our physical bodies.  Nothing lasts forever – nothing but God’s love and mercy.  This Psalm tells us twenty-six times that “His love endures forever”.  It tells us of God’s character, His power and His past deliverance and miracles.  It is on this basis that we can have faith and trust in God.  He has proven to be faithful, just, merciful and loving time and time again throughout the ages.  This historical Psalm basically goes through God’s resume which gives us hope.  Read through the Psalm again, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal to you more about the hope that you have by placing your trust in God.

Overview:
Verse 1-3: Threefold praise to the Triune God
Verse 4-9: Praise to the Creator
Verse 10-15: Praise for deliverance from Egypt
Verse 16-22: Praise for the journey through the wilderness and conquest of Canaan
Verse 23-26: Praise for His universal Sovereignty and care

PRAYER AND MEDITATION
1.   What are some of the historical things that are mentioned in this Psalm that speak of God’s faithfulness?
2.   How does this give us hope that He will continue to be faithful to us?
3.   Ask the Lord to personalize this for you; in what ways has He been faithful to you?  How does this give you hope for the future?
