Prophet’s Reading Plan: Lamentations 1-2
Corporate Lament
Read: Psalm 12
This Psalm
is a community lament which may have been written by David when Saul was
persecuting him. David was experiencing
the wickedness of men; lies abound (vs. 2).
Have you ever experienced someone breaking a promise to you? Many people give their word but unfortunately
we often can’t rely on what people say.
Many people have proven that they can’t be trusted but it is not that
way with the Lord. “The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in the
furnace seven times”. God’s words are
pure and flawless. We can trust
Him. What do we do when we see the
godlessness of today’s society? Do we
get discouraged when we see the evil in our world? Do we feel like living for God is useless? No! We
do like David, we bring our complaint before the Lord, we pray for the
salvation of the wicked and for His fair judgment of those who reject God. We ask God to refine and purge evil from our
own hearts and rely on the promises of God.
We pray that He will guard us from this evil generation (verse 7) and
protect His faithful followers. Although
we may feel despair at times, we turn to God and trust in Him, He is our
hope!
Overview:
Verses 1-2: David’s complaint – that liars
prevail
Verses 3-4: Denounce judgment upon lairs
Verses 5-6: God’s promises give hope
Verses 7-8: God will guide the faithful
PRAYER AND MEDITATION
1. In
what ways can you relate to David’s “everyone
utters lies to his neighbour”? Do
you see a lack of integrity in our culture?
2. Pray
that the Lord will guard His people from the sin and evil corruptions that are
in our society (vs. 7).
3. Pray
that God’s people will choose to walk in holiness and righteousness, that they
will purify their hearts and model holiness in our culture.
