Prophet’s Reading Plan: Ezekiel 22-23

Celebratory Hymn

Read: Psalm 103

This Psalm of David praises God for all His benefits to His people.  In verses 1-3 we see that that David’s gratitude has four attributes.  First, it is personal.  Our religion must start with ourselves and it must start at home.  Secondly, it is fervent – “and all that is within me”.  David praised the Lord with all his feelings, thoughts, understanding, will, affections and passions.  Third, it is rational – “forget not all his benefits”.  Lastly, it is specific; David goes on to describe all those specific benefits in the succeeding verses.  He forgives their iniquities (vs. 3); heals their diseases (vs. 3); redeems their lives (vs. 4); crowns them with loving-kindness (vs. 4); satisfies them with good things (vs. 5); renews their youth (vs. 5); He helps the oppressed, makes His ways known, is merciful and gracious, and keeps not His anger for ever, (vs.  6-9); His forbearance, and pardoning mercy, (vs. 10-12); and He is a tender and considerate Father, (vs. 13, 14).  Look at this incredible list, we have MUCH to be thankful and praise God for!

Overview:
Verses 1-5: Personal mercies that the Psalmist has received
Verses 6-19: Attributes of God in dealing with His people
Verses 20-22: Conclusion – let all creation bless Him

PRAYER AND MEDITATION
1.   What are some of the benefits that are listed in verses 3-5?  Have you experienced each of these?
2.   What does verses 10-13 tell you about the Lord?  What does it tell you about the person who receives these benefits?  Spend some time thanking Him for these things.
3.   What are some of the other characteristics of God that this Psalm speaks of?  Thank and praise the Lord for these things.
