Celebratory Hymn

Read: Psalm 100

This Psalm of praise celebrates God’s Kingship and calls His people to worship Him.  It is full of thankful adoration and has been a favourite of God’s people for generations.  Do you see the commands in verse 1?  MAKE a joyful noise, SERVE the Lord with gladness, COME into His presence with singing.  All three of those words are verbs or action words.  These are things in which we are called to do.  We are exhorted to praise the Lord and to acknowledge Him to be the Sovereign God.  Why are we to do this?  Verse 5 concludes the matter for us – it is because He is good, because His love endures forever, because He is faithful to all generations.  God’s goodness and faithfulness should motivate us to freely express our love and allegiance to Him.  Some people struggle with expressing praise to God, it may feel foreign, weird or they may just be shy.  Others struggle with the opposite and may need to learn the beauty of being still before the Lord.  Wherever you are at, let the Lord guide and direct your worship times and celebrate what He has done for you.

Overview:
Verses 1-2: An exhortation to praise God
Verse 3-5: The reasons on which our praise is founded

PRAYER AND MEDITATION
1.   What kind of worshipper are you?  Do you find it easy to praise the Lord or is it a struggle for you?  Ask the Lord to show you what type of worship He requires of you.
2.   Pray that as a church, we would grow in giving God authentic worship out of a heart of thankfulness, based on the character of God and not for our own personal gratification.
3.   Verse five mentions God’s steadfast love and faithfulness, thank Him for these attributes.  Ask the Lord to grow in you the ability to receive His love and experience it.
